MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051043 A) filed by Easwari Engineering College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on April 22, for 'biochar-reinforced natural fiber composite helmet with ventilation and impact protection.'
Inventor(s) include Sathiyamoorthy R M; Vishnu Venugopal S; Rishi S; Srinath S; and Shayam S.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention presents a lightweight and eco-friendly protective helmet fabricated using a biochar-reinforced natural fiber hybrid composite. The helmet shell is designed with a multi-layered structure comprising outer sisal and jute fiber reinforcements embedded in a polymer matrix, an intermediate biochar-filled core for enhanced energy absorption, and an inner impact-damping layer. The design incorporates optimized geometry and integrated ventilation channels to improve airflow while maintaining structural integrity. The inclusion of biochar enhances mechanical strength, reduces weight, and promotes sustainability. Mechanical and impact analyses demonstrate improved energy dissipation and durability compared to conventional materials. This innovative helmet design offers a sustainable alternative for protective applications in automotive and personal safety sectors."
