MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641024760 A) filed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, on March 2, for 'biodegradable composite film and method for preparation thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Bajo, Mame; Kamaraj, Nithya; and Sathish, Asha.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A biodegradable composite film is produced using a method (100) to improve mechanical strength, flexibility, and environmental compatibility. The method includes gelatinising Elephant Yam foot starch under controlled temperature conditions in a range of 60 C to 90 C with applied shear to form an aqueous starch dispersion. Jute fiber waste is chemically delignified using an alkaline solution and subsequently bleached to obtain a microfibrillated cellulose dispersion. Polyvinyl alcohol is dissolved in water to obtain a solution having a concentration of 3% to 10%, which is added to form a biopolymer blend. The blend is homogenised by mechanical stirring or shear mixing, cast to a thickness of 0.05 to 0.8 mm, and dried to obtain biodegradable composite film suitable for packaging applications such as bags."
