MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641001498 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education and Research, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Jan. 6, for 'biodegradable foldable air-gap antifungal protective cover for indian korai pai sleeping mats.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a method of preparing a biodegradable and foldable air-gap antifungal protective cover for Indian Korai Pai, comprising: a. preparing a film from banana fiber, followed by coating the film with beeswax dispersion in ethanol and drying to form bottom moisture-resistant layer; b. weaving bamboo-cotton fabric, and infusing an aqueous extract containing neem leaf extract and turmeric powder dispersed in gum arabic binder followed by drying to obtain top antifungal fabric layer; c. arranging corrugated coir strips or pressed areca-sheath spacers to maintain an air gap between the bottom and top layers, and fixing the corrugated coir strips or pressed areca-sheath spacers using biodegradable starch-based adhesive to form middle air-gap layer; d. laminating the bottom, middle, and top layers into a foldable cover using biodegradable stitching threads to obtain an assembly of foldable composite structure; e. attaching breathable jute-cloth flaps at the ends of the foldable composite structure and inserting replaceable desiccant pouches filled with dry neem leaves or silica-gel granules, to obtain biodegradable and foldable air-gap antifungal protective cover. The present invention also discloses a biodegradable and foldable air-gap antifungal protective cover for Indian Korai Pai, prepared by the process as described above."
