MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641048772 A) filed by Srm University, Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh, on April 16, for 'biofilm coupon and a method of manufacturing thereof.'
Inventor(s) include Kandikatla, Abhishek Ramesh; Murugaiyan, Jayaseelan; Halkarni, Surfarazhussain Sayedbasha; Kumar, Chandan; and Chinnadurai, Sunil.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A biofilm coupon (100) for biofilm formation and growth, the biofilm coupon (100) comprising a substantially circular body (110) having at least one substantially flat surface and a plurality of stand-like projections (120) extending from said circular body (110) in a common direction relative to said circular body (110), wherein the biofilm coupon (100) is made of an abiotic material; the circular body (110) and the stand-like projections (120) are formed from a unitary blank of the abiotic material; the plurality of stand-like projections (120) are configured to support the circular body (110) in an upright orientation; and the biofilm coupon (100) is configured to expose at least two opposing surfaces of the circular body (110) simultaneously to a culture medium, thereby enabling bidirectional biofilm growth under static conditions."
