MUMBAI, India, Feb. 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511058625 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, New Delhi, on June 18, 2025, for 'bioinspired nanotextured tribological hybrid surface for controlling directional friction, and method of fabricating the same.'

Inventor(s) include Singh, Jitendra Pratap; Gosvami, Nitya Nand; and Datta, Debottam.

The application for the patent was published on Feb. 13, under issue no. 07/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a bioinspired nanotextured hybrid surface comprising a solid lubrication coating on top of the textured surface, which exhibits direction-dependent friction or frictional anisotropy. The wear resistance of the developed hybrid tribological surface enhanced significantly compared to the bare nanotextured surface due to the stress-shielding effect of the solid lubrication coating present over the nanotextures. Further, the present disclosure also relates to a method of forming a nanotextured tribological hybrid surface."
