MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541088318 A) filed by Dr. Saranya Aathilingaperumal, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Sept. 17, 2025, for 'biopolymer membrane incorporating tridax procumbens extract and silver nanoparticles for periodontal regeneration.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Saranya Aathilingaperumal; Dr Rudhra K;. Dr S. Theoder Robinson; Dr Vennila K; Dr S Elanchezhiyan; Dr. M. Saranya; Santhosh D. A; and Dr. Anitha Balaji.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Biopolymer Membrane Incorporating Tridax procumbens Extract and Silver Nanoparticles for Periodontal Regeneration The present invention relates to a biodegradable guided tissue regeneration membrane comprising a biopolymer matrix selected from chitosan, collagen, polylactic acid, polycaprolactone, gelatin, or combinations thereof, integrated with Tridax procumbens extract and green-synthesized silver nanoparticles. The membrane exhibits controlled porosity and sustained release of bioactive agents, resulting in synergistic antimicrobial activity and enhanced tissue regeneration. The silver nanoparticles are synthesized using the plant extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent and are uniformly dispersed within the membrane. The membrane is fabricated by solvent casting without synthetic crosslinkers and is adapted for periodontal regeneration by functioning as both a physical barrier and a localized drug-delivery system."
