MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049187 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on April 17, for 'blind spot detection system for vehicle safety.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. D. Senthilkumar; and Ramapraba J R.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a Blind Spot Detection System for vehicles, aimed at improving road safety by alerting the driver to objects in areas not visible through standard mirrors. The system uses ultrasonic sensors mounted on the sides and rear of the vehicle, which transmit data to a microcontroller. When an object is detected in the blind spot, visual and/or auditory alerts are generated on the dashboard or mirrors. The system operates automatically during forward motion, with special emphasis on lane changes and turns. It is scalable for two-wheelers, four-wheelers, and commercial vehicles, and has been tested for reliability under various environmental and lighting conditions. The system offers a cost-effective, energy-efficient, and retrofittable solution to reduce accidents caused by blind spot hazards."
