MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421005928 A) filed by Wildlife Conservation Trust, Maharashtra, on Jan. 30, 2024, for 'boatbaits: a boat-based geo-fencing and tracking system with buzzer-alarm indicator.'
Inventor(s) include Vedant Ajit Barje; Kelkar Nachiket Sanjeev; Subhasis Dey; Ramya Roopa Sengottuvel; and Dr. Anish Pramod Andheria.
The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The boatBAITS device is invented to aid in the management of boat-based human activities in India's inland open-water systems, such as small-scale fisheries, navigation, and local transportation, which are largely a part of the unorganized sector. For e.g. an application can be in fisheries management and governance by spatially delimiting fishing zones and conservation zones through virtual fencing. This is done using GPS and geo-fencing technologies, microcontrollers, LEDs, and buzzers; which can help alert fishers using small boats if they cross into any prohibited or enclosed area (e.g. near dams, protected areas for wildlife, fish conservation zones, etc.) that they are not permitted to enter for fishing. This device is a low cost, easy to use, robust and novel way to alert fishers and respond to the alert proactively and stay out of potential risk or trouble. The device will also help monitoring agencies in remotely tracking fishing and navigation activities and take required action or intervention according to the situation."
