MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511126500 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Dec. 14, 2025, for 'brainwave-controlled mobility and emergency communication system.'
Inventor(s) include Shubham Gangari; Saurabh Kaintura; Anshika Bijalwan; Dr. Vibhor Sharma; Dr. Gunjan Chhabra; and Shivani Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to MindGuard, an intelligent brainwave-controlled mobility and communication system for users with severe motor and speech impairments. A wearable EEG headset supplies brainwave-derived data, including attention and meditation coefficients and blink events, to a microcontroller. A circular array of coloured LEDs provides a visual selection interface for mobility and communication commands. The microcontroller implements a cognitive command-locking protocol that activates wheelchair motors only when the user's attention exceeds a threshold on a chosen LED and remains above the threshold for defined locking duration, thereby preventing accidental motions. In parallel, the system analyses meditation level, blink frequency and attention variability to detect distress states and automatically transmits wireless emergency alerts to caregivers. A speech output module vocalises pre-stored phrases selected through the same LED-based interface, enabling basic voice communication. The invention thus unifies safe brainwave-driven mobility, autonomous emergency signalling and augmentative communication in a low-cost assistive platform."
