MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641026348 A) filed by PERI Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 6, for 'break buddy: a smart digital wellness application for scheduled screen-time break management.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The sustained use of electronic devices including mobile phones, computers, laptops, and other electronic gadgets over long hours may lead to eye strain, mental exhaustion, lack of concentration and health problems in the long term. In an attempt to fix this issue, this present invention suggests a device smart digital wellness reminder application named Break Buddy, which requires healthy habits in utilizing the device by implementing regular breaks. Break Buddy is created as an APK-based application that may be installed to the electronic equipment and provides its users with the possibility of creating their own customized work-rest routine, e.g., breaking every one or two hours or based on the user's setting time. Depending on the preset time, the system will automatically send alerts in the form of notifications, temporarily dimming the screen, or sleep/lock to make sure that the user takes a moment to stop using the device. This sporadic distraction assists in taking the eyes off, decreasing psychological- strain, and enhancing productivity and wellbeing. The invention offers an easy, automatic, and convenient method of keeping digital health and avoiding strains due to constant screen time."
