MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441035853 A) filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea, on May 6, 2024, for 'cell selection optimization in terrestrial network -non-terrestrial network.'

Inventor(s) include Amit Anandrao Dange; Nishant; Vivek Murugaiyan; and Kailash Kumar Jha.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Embodiments disclosed herein provide a method for cell selection optimization in terrestrial network (TN)- Non-terrestrial network (NTN) by a UE (100). The method includes detecting whether the UE (100) is moving from a TN coverage area of the TN to a NTN coverage area. The NTN coverage area has limited coverage or no coverage to the TN. Further, the method includes detecting and camping on to a NTN cell of the NTN. Further, the method includes prioritizing the plurality of Frequency Division Duplexing (FDD) bands over a plurality of Time-division duplexing (TDD) bands supported by a plurality of TN cells for scanning in a subsequent background search. Further, the method includes selecting at least one FDD band from the plurality of the FDD bands supported by the plurality of TN cells. Further, the method includes prioritizing scanning of the plurality of the FDD bands in the subsequent background search."
