MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202341088414 A) filed by Jain University, Kanakapura, Karnataka, on Dec. 23, 2023, for 'chemical fixation of carbon dioxide into oxazolidinone using micro structured magnesium oxide at atmospheric pressure.'
Inventor(s) include Arvind H. Jadhav; Puneethkumar M. Srinivasappa; Hemavathi M; and Dhanusha R.
The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention describes the sustainable fixation of anthropogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) into a value-added chemical of oxazolidinone using hierarchical MgO microspheres catalyst under solvent-free at atmospheric pressure reaction conditions. The different base-MgO materials were synthesized by the simple and facile precipitation process using different metal carbonates as bases. Successfully synthesized materials' characteristic properties were examined by using analytical and spectroscopic techniques. All base-MgO materials screened for the oxazolidinone reaction and additionally, studied various reaction parameters in detail. The promised SC-MgO microspheres catalyst achieved good stability towards the substrates scope study and also showed excellent recyclability feature up to ten consecutive cycles."
