MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517072900 A) filed by Qualcomm Incorporated, San Diego, on July 31, for 'coding enhancement using spinal codes.'

Inventor(s) include Guetta, Matan; Berger, Peer; Yunusov, David; and Kutz, Gideon Shlomo.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A transmitter device may encode information for a message using a spinal code. The transmitter device may divide the information into sets of bits each including a variable quantity k of bits, and map the sets of bits to symbols to generate a message. The transmitter device may transmit the symbols in an order based on the k values (symbols with smaller k values at the beginning of the message and larger k values at the end).Based on receiving the message, a receiver device may identify the k of each symbol and decode the symbols. The receiver device may identify a partial codeword or determine a likelihood of error associated with the message, which the receiver device may indicate via a feedback message. The transmitter device may retransmit a portion of the message based on the feedback."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 01, 2024, under International application No.PCT/US2024/018129.
