MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511126269 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Dec. 13, 2025, for 'composition and method for extracting, characterizing, and utilizing rubus species bioactive compounds for diabetes management.'

Inventor(s) include Vijay Kumar; Bindu Naik; and Deep Shikha.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a composition and method for managing diabetes by extracting, characterizing, and formulating bioactive compounds from Rubus species. The invention employs an extraction vessel to process selected plant parts (fruits, leaves, or stems) using an aqueous, ethanol, or hydroalcoholic solvent system at 40-50 C and a pH of about 4-5, followed by cleaning, drying, and milling. A standardized fraction containing flavonoids, anthocyanins, procyanidins, ellagitannins, and phenolic acids is isolated via chromatographic techniques in an analysis module with HPLC-MS/MS or UPLC. This fraction is then incorporated into a formulation unit with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier, delivered in softgel capsules, powdered supplements, or functional beverages. The composition exhibits inhibitory activity against carbohydrate-digesting enzymes and is validated through enzyme inhibition, molecular docking, and cellular glucose uptake assays."
