MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531130350 A) filed by Asansol Engineering College, Asansol, West Bengal, on Dec. 22, 2025, for 'cooking oil consumption monitoring using microcontroller and weight sensor.'

Inventor(s) include Tapas Pal; Sunetra Mukherjee; and Ganga Bhattacharjee.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a smart monitoring apparatus for the precise control of daily edible oil consumption, notably mustard oil, during domestic food preparation, specifically aiming to mitigate cholesterol-related health risks. The system architecture fundamentally comprises a load sensor integrated with a microcontroller unit configured to measure real-time mass changes of an oil container. The microcontroller accurately calculates the cumulative oil quantity dispensed over a specified period. A key functional aspect is the system's ability to store, process, and compare the consumption data against a pre-set daily consumption limit, automatically issuing visual, auditory, or digital alerts when the threshold is approached or surpassed. The system promotes healthier cooking practices by enabling accurate measurement and conscious regulation of oil usage, presenting an affordable, user-friendly, and effective solution for the modern kitchen environment."
