MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311087870 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group Ag, Stuttgart, Germany, on Dec. 21, 2023, for 'cushioned safety belt.'

Inventor(s) include Suman Rao; Pathik Krishne Gowda; Abdulla Sawad Nadubail; Pramod Jagadeesha; Sunil Ramachandra Kumar Mahesh; Bhavitha Thigalanahalli Jayaramegowda; and Usharani Chandaka.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a cushioned safety belt (106). The cushioned safety belt (106) includes a buckle (208) configured to slide along a length of a strap (202), a cushion belt (204) configured to provide cushioning to at least one portion of the strap (202), and a retraction unit (205) configured to wind and retract the cushion belt (204) thereinto. The cushion belt (204) is configured to the buckle (208) on a first end and the retraction unit (205) on a second end such that when the buckle (208) is slid and secured at a desired position along the length of the strap (202), the cushion belt (204) is unwound and extended from the retraction unit (205) to provide cushioning to the at least one portion of the strap (202)."
