MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050612 A) filed by Vignan's Institute Of Information Technology, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on April 21, for 'design and fabrication of electrical skateboard.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. R. Sundara Ramam; A. Sanjay; A. Teja; A. Shyam Sundar Reddy; and B. Shanmukh.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The electric skateboard is a modern personal transportation device combining mechanical engineering principles with electrical and control system technology. This invention presents the design, development, and implementation of an electric skateboard with variable speed control and bidirectional motion capability. The skateboard is powered by a 24V DC motor coupled with a 2-channel relay-based control system, allowing users to control forward and backward motion through push buttons. The skateboard features a robust iron shield base mounted on a chain- driven transmission system, powered by a 12V battery stepped up to 24V. Testing results demonstrate a maximum speed of approximately 18 km/h, operational time of 38 minutes on a single charge, weight capacity of up to 95 kg, and Electric skateboards are gaining popularity for short- distance commuting, campus travel, and recreational riding due to their compact size."
