Inventor(s) include Sreenivasa Institute Technology And Management Studies; Dr. N. Satish Kumar; Dr. T. Chinna Pamulety; Mr. K. Prudvi; Mr. V. Hemaprasad; Mr. G. Narasimhulu; Mr. B. Perumal; and Mr. M. Hithesh Sai.
The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "In this modern engineering world, surface engineering is an overlooked and unsung field of Material Science and Engineering which contributed hugely to the fields of engineering. It is focused on modifications and enhancements on material surface to improve their performance in various conditions and applications. Micro-Arc Oxidation is a technique that does the same to the surface of metals when exposed to electrolyte and electricity. Majorly used metals are Aluminium, Titanium, and Magnesium but achieving a durable and cost-effective coating on a metal like Aluminium is a challenging procedure due to the problems of oxide formation, low dielectric breakdown voltage, and high conductivity makes the coating nonuniform and porous. The research demonstrates MAO process on Aluminium wire using an 'Alkalinebased' electrolyte composed of Na2SiO3, Na3PO4, KOH, subjected to a voltage up to 320V DC using an autotransformer and bridge rectifier which is a device that converts Alternating current to Direct current, the cooling system utilises an aquarium pump and a refrigeration rig to control the temperature. The resulting coatings exhibited considerable improvements on wear resistance, corrosion resistance, hardness, flexibility, uniform thickness and adhesion. This result illustrates the potential of this research on MAO coating of Aluminium metal to be beneficial in numerous applications like Aerospace, Electrical, Industrial, Automotive, Ocean Engineering and Bio-medicals especially in harsh environments."
