MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621009852 A) filed by Dr. Somya Omprakash Singh; and Abhishek Omprakash Singh, Nashik, Maharashtra, on Jan. 30, for 'development of ppa (pawan putra avaran): a herbal and activated carbon composite mask with replaceable filters for mitigating chronic low-level air pollutants, reducing formaldehyde exposure, and mucosal toxicity.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Somya Omprakash Singh; and Abhishek Omprakash Singh.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention pertains to a low-cost, breathable, and eco-sustainable mask designed to protect individuals from inhaling formalin vapours, commonly found in academic and laboratory settings. This mask combines traditional Ayurvedic herbs with modern activated carbon filtration to effectively adsorb and neutralize formaldehyde vapours. The innovative design includes a replaceable herbal-carbon composite filter, which enhances protection by both physically trapping formalin molecules and chemically neutralizing them using the healing properties of Ayurvedic herbs. The mask is non-toxic, biodegradable, and affordable, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional masks, which often fail to protect against volatile organic compounds (VOCs) like formaldehyde. With its simple yet effective construction, the mask ensures comfort and safety for prolonged use, making it a viable solution for environments exposed to formalin vapours. Furthermore, its cost-effective and eco-friendly manufacturing process promotes accessibility and widespread use, especially in resource-constrained settings."
