MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311085431 A) filed by Translational Health Science And Technology Institute, Faridabad, Haryana, on Dec. 14, 2023, for 'device and process for automatic collection of first-void, midstream and late stream urine specimens.'
Inventor(s) include Devhuti Chetan Palan; Mehak Bajaj; Kumar Nishchaya; Dr. Niya Mathur; Dr. Jayanti Kumari; Dr. Niraj Kumar; Dr. Susmita Chaudhuri; Dr. Sagnik Chakroborty; Dr. Shinjini Bhatnagar; and Dr. Jayanta Bhattacharya.
The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A urine collecting device designed for collecting urine specimens includes a funnel, a compartment, and a urine flow segregating pathway unit. The funnel is configured to automatically part a labia majora from a vulvar region to allow urine to pass through. The compartment is located below the funnel, contains multiple chambers arranged vertically side by side, with each chamber designed to collect a urine specimen. Each chamber houses a spherical floater that moves to securely retain the urine when the chamber is filled. The device also features a locking ring to operatively couple the funnel to the compartment. The urine flow segregating pathway unit sequentially directs urine into the chambers: the first chamber collects first-void urine (FVU), while the second and third chambers collect midstream urine (MSU1 and MSU2). The spherical floaters in each chamber rise to retain the urine securely, ensuring accurate MSU specimen collection for testing."
