MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621010509 A) filed by Sage University, Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on Feb. 1, for 'driver monitoring system and method for real-time detection of intoxicated and fatigued drivers.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A driver monitoring system (102) for a vehicle (104) comprises an alcohol sensor (106), camera module (108), communication interface (110), location receiver (112), and hardware processor (118). The hardware processor (118) obtains alcohol value from the alcohol sensor (106) and facial images from the camera module (108). The hardware processor (118) detects drowsiness by calculating Eye Aspect Ratio from facial landmarks. The hardware processor (118) generates alert based on alcohol value and drowsiness, obtains coordinates from the location receiver (112), and transmits the alert via the communication interface (110). The system (102) provides simultaneous detection with automated GPS-tagged alerting."
