MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511126657 A) filed by Swami Rama Himalayan University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand, on Dec. 15, 2025, for 'dual-layer antiemetic mucoadhesive buccal film for immediate and sustained drug release.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. Ujjwal Nautiyal; Mr. Rahul Pandey; and Mr. Abhishek Chandola.

The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention provides a dual-layer mucoadhesive buccal film comprising an immediate-release layer and a sustained-release mucoadhesive layer. The immediate-release layer rapidly disintegrates upon contact with saliva to release a first portion of ondansetron, providing rapid onset of antiemetic action. The sustained-release layer remains adhered to the buccal mucosa and releases a second portion of ondansetron in a controlled manner over 4-8 hours. The layers are manufactured separately using solvent casting and laminated using a non-thermal process to prevent drug migration between layers."
