MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641049209 A) filed by Sona College Of Technology, Salem, Tamil Nadu, on April 17, for 'e-prescription system for hassle-free medicine collection.'

Inventor(s) include Arshiya Tabassum; Jeffrin G; and Sangeetha D P.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an e-prescription system enabling secure and paperless medicine dispensing. The system comprises a central prescription management unit storing digital prescription records linked to unique RFID-based patient identifiers, a prescriber interface unit for generating prescriptions, a pharmacy interface unit for retrieving and dispensing prescriptions, and an RFID identification unit for authenticated patient identification. Prescriptions are generated digitally and stored in an active state within a centralized data repository. Upon presentation of the RFID identifier at a pharmacy, corresponding active prescription records are retrieved and displayed for dispensing. Following medicine issuance, the prescription records are irreversibly updated to a dispensed state, thereby preventing reuse and ensuring complete prescription history tracking. The invention eliminates handwritten prescription errors, prevents fraudulent dispensing, and enables secure, end-to-end prescription management between healthcare providers and pharmacies."
