MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517064615 A) filed by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., Gyeonggi, Republic of Korea, on July 7, for 'electronic device supporting non-terrestrial network and operating method of electronic device.'

Inventor(s) include Lee, Keonyoung; Cho, Minwoong; Kong, Hyeyeon; and Hwang, Sunmin.

The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Disclosed are an electronic device and an operating method of an electronic device according to various embodiments, the electronic device including: a communication circuit for supporting cellular communication through a terrestrial network and a non-terrestrial network; a memory for storing mapping data in which identification information of the non-terrestrial network and a service supported by the non-terrestrial network are mapped; and a communication processor, wherein the communication processor may be configured to: identify, while connecting to a network through a node, whether a network including the node is the non-terrestrial network, on the basis of system information received form the node; on the basis that the network is the non-terrestrial network, identify a service supported by the network on the basis of the mapping data; and prohibit an operation of transmitting, to the network, a request message for establishing a packet data unit (PDU) session for a service not supported by the network."
