MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541125318 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 11, 2025, for 'energy generation system for unmanned aerial vehicles in marine environments.'
Inventor(s) include Rajkumar Murugesan; Amogh Singh; Malay Bhattacharjee; Aruna. R; Reeves Wesley; Padmavathy. C; Preetha. R; Sangavi. R; Indumathy. Lakshmanan; Sujith Kumaar D H; and S. G. Suganesvar.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A system (100) for recharging an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) (102) in maritime environments (120) can include an energy generation unit (104) integrated within the UAV (102) to produce electrical energy through an electrochemical reaction between an anode (104-1) and a cathode (104-2) when immersed in seawater (120). The anode (104-1) and cathode (104-2) can be extendable electrodes electrically coupled to the energy generation unit (104), The anode (104-1) and cathode (104-2) can be extended from the UAV (102) into the seawater (120) to complete a circuit and initiate electrochemical reaction. A power conditioning module (106) electrically coupled to the energy generation unit (104) and a battery (110) regulates the generated electrical energy to a predetermined voltage suitable for real-time battery (110) recharging. A stabilization and docking unit (114) maintain the UAV (102) at a predefined orientation and altitude above the seawater (120) during energy generation in dynamic maritime conditions."
