MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517057043 A) filed by Interdigital Ce Patent Holdings, Sas, Paris, on June 13, for 'extension of spatial geometric prediction mode.'

Inventor(s) include Naser, Karam; Robert, Antoine; Reuze, Kevin; and Chen, Ya.

The application for the patent was published on July 4, under issue no. 27/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Systems, devices, and methods are described herein for extending the types of candidate modes that may be included in spatial geometric prediction mode (SGPM) candidate lists. An example device for video decoding may determine that SGPM is used for a current block. The device may derive an intra-prediction candidate based on a template of the current block. The device may generate an SGPM candidate list for the current block based on the intra-prediction candidate. The device may decode the current block based on the SGPM candidate list. The device may derive an intra block copy merge candidate for the current block and add the intra block copy merge candidate to the SGPM candidate list. The device may derive an inter merge candidate for the current block and add the inter merge candidate to the SGPM candidate list."

The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 21, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/087389.
