MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541019968 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 6, for 'formulation of eutectic solvent-based zein inks for tissue engineering applications.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention describes a bio-based ink composition using natural biopolymers like zein, derived from renewable resources, and deep eutectic solvents to enhance printing performance. The ink composition described in the present invention overcomes the limitations associated with native zein inks, such as solvent volatility and poor storage stability. The ink composition describes herewith exhibit significant improvements in printing efficiency, accuracy, structural fidelity, and storage stability, also confirming their suitability for complex geometries and customized features. The present invention bio-based inks have applications in biomaterials, 3D bioprinting, and tissue engineering."
