MUMBAI, India, July 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517056218 A) filed by Interdigital Ce Patent Holdings, Sas, Paris, on June 11, for 'gradual decoding refresh padding.'

Inventor(s) include Poirier, Tangi; Aumont, Franck; Bossen, Frank; and Thiebaud, Sylvain.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed herein associated with the field of video compression. A video decoder or video encoder may identify the reference picture. The reference picture may include a first region (e.g., dirty area) and a second region (e.g., clean area) divided by a boundary (e.g., a virtual boundary). In examples, plurality of sample values may be propagated (e.g., propagated horizontally) from the clean area to the dirty area (e.g., the entire dirty area). In examples, the plurality of samples values may be propagated (e.g., propagated horizontally) from the clean area to a subset of the dirty area. The video decoder may decode or the video encoder may encode a current block based on the plurality of propagated sample values."
