MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511126766 A) filed by Sher-E-Kashmir University Of Agricultural Sciences And Technology Of Kashmir; and Farmdraft Equipments Pvt. Ltd., Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, on Dec. 15, 2025, for 'hand-held saffron harvesting device.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Kalay Khan; Dr. Mudasir Ali; Dr. Jagvir Dixit; Dr. Mir G. Hasan; and Dr. Niyaz A. Dar.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 23, under issue no. 04/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A present invention discloses a hand-held saffron harvesting device (100), comp a frame (102). Further the frame (102) comprises an adjustable handle (106), configured to be accessed by a user for handling the device (100) during saffron harvesting, a harvesting unit (108) configured to harvest the saffron flowers without damaging stigmas of the saffron plant. Further the harvesting unit (108) comprises one or more electric motor (110) to rotate a blade (112) coupled with the one or more electric motor's shaft, and a collection chamber (114) operationally connected to the harvesting unit (108), wherein the rotation of the blade (112) generates gentle suction for pulling flowers into the collection chamber (114). Further the one or more speed regulating switch (116), configured to enable the user to operate the device (100) at different speed based at least on crop conditions."
