MUMBAI, India, Nov. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531017979 A) filed by Siksha O Anusandhan, Bhubaneswar, Orissa, on Feb. 28, for 'hands-free crutching device.'

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 28, under issue no. 48/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A hands-free crutching device comprising U-shaped frame 101 with concave cushioned plate 102 at the upper portion for positioning the user's knee and configured with a drawer mechanism 103 for height adjustment, microphone configured on frame 101 receives user audio commands to detect leg dimensions, telescopic rods 107 with C-shaped bars 108 to extend or retract for optimal walking support, elongated concave member 104 with a cushioned inner surface attached via a pivot joint supports the lower portion of the user's leg, motorized rollers 105 along the edges, strap leg securely, touch-enabled display unit 112 linked receives input to guide walking, imaging unit 110 processes the area to determine unsuitable walking regions and if unsafe path is detected the microcontroller actuates speaker 111 to generate an audio alert advising the user to choose safer route, hydraulic actuators 109 with shock absorbers attached at bottom provide support in case of imbalance."
