MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631007509 A) filed by Institute Of Engineering & Management, Kolkata, West Bengal, on Jan. 26, for 'hardware based password management system.'
Inventor(s) include Mr. Alik Agarwala; Mr. Avik Agarwala; Mr. Suman Mondal; Ms. Sneha Roy; Mr. Pratyay Chatterjee; Mr. Rajdeep Banerjee; and Prof. Sudipta Sahana.
The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "Hardware based Password Management system The present invention relates to a hardware-based credential management and authentication system, comprising a Bluetooth-enabled USB hardware device configured for secure storage, synchronization, and automated autofill of user credentials. The system employs a dedicated microcontroller with encrypted non-volatile memory and a unique hardware identifier to ensure that credentials remain accessible only through an authorized physical device. Encrypted Bluetooth communication enables secure synchronization of credentials from a companion mobile application, while USB Human Interface Device (HID) emulation allows driverless and cross-platform credential injection into target systems. The device further operates as a two-factor authentication (2FA) passkey, supporting challenge-response authentication and cryptographic verification. By combining hardware-isolated security, encrypted communication, and seamless cross-platform compatibility, the invention significantly reduces attack surfaces associated with software-based password managers and provides a secure, portable, and user-friendly solution for credential management across heterogeneous computing environments."
