MUMBAI, India, July 11 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511059533 A) filed by Chandigarh University, Mohali, Punjab, on June 21, for 'hassle-free billing system for shopping using iot-based smart cart system.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an IoT-enabled Smart Cart System designed to streamline the shopping experience in retail environments. The system integrates a detachable smart box equipped with a scanner, dual microcontroller units, pushbuttons, a display device, and wireless communication modules. It enables real-time billing, inventory tracking, and budget management. Shoppers can set a purchase limit using a dedicated button, scan items to add them to the cart, and remove unwanted items, all while monitoring their expenses. Alerts are generated when the budget is exceeded, and a final bill with a QR code is produced for payment. The system supports cloud connectivity for remote monitoring and features Bluetooth-based proximity fencing to prevent theft. This intelligent cart significantly reduces checkout time, enhances customer convenience, and improves inventory accuracy in retail stores."
