MUMBAI, India, Sept. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411017632 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, New Delhi, on March 12, 2024, for 'high entropy alloy based electrocatalyst, their engineering and application thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Poulomi Roy; Sakila Khatun; and Santanu Pal.

The application for the patent was published on Sept. 26, under issue no. 39/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to high entropy alloy NimFenCrxVyMnz Electrocatalyst for alkaline water, seawater Oxidation and process for preparation thereof for oxygen evolution reaction in solution based technique. The electrocatalyst is found not only active in alkaline fresh water but also in alkaline and highly alkaline saline water as well as real seawater. The use of high entropy alloy embedded in layered double hydroxide NimFenCrxVyMnz electrocatalyst as anode allows to achieve ampere level high current density of 1 A cm-2 in alkaline real seawater at the oxidation potential in the range of 2.3-2.4V vs. RHE and allows to run over 500 h in presence of molybdate inhibitor in the alkaline (1M KOH) seawater based electrolyte. The performance in highly alkaline real seawater at applied potential of 2V vs. RHE offers exceptional stability over 500h maintaining the high current density around 800 mA cm-2."
