MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122134 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'hybrid cnn-transformer ensemble system for pneumonia diagnosis from chest x-ray images.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Kalaavathi B; Mr. Aum Dubey; Mr. Anirudh Vyas Maruthi; and Ms. Pushpita Biswas.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a system for pneumonia diagnosis from chest X-ray images. The system includes a data preprocessing module configured to receive chest X-ray images and normalize the chest X-ray images to a standardized format, a plurality of pre-trained convolutional neural network models, an ensemble aggregation mechanism configured to combine predictions from the plurality of pre-trained convolutional neural network models, a binary classification module configured to classify the chest X-ray images as normal or pneumonia using the ensemble aggregation mechanism, a multi-class classification module configured to classify the chest X-ray images into normal, bacterial pneumonia, and viral pneumonia categories using the ensemble aggregation mechanism, and an explainability module configured to generate visual interpretations of classification decisions made by the binary classification module and the multi-class classification module."
