MUMBAI, India, Jan. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541122136 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, on Dec. 4, 2025, for 'hybrid cnn-vit system for automated plant disease diagnosis.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Adaline Suji R; Mr. Mohd Zunaid Ahmed; Mr. Farhan Ahmad Tufail; and Mr. Mohammed Mohsin Jawed.
The application for the patent was published on Jan. 2, under issue no. 01/2026.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure provides a hybrid machine learning system for automated plant disease diagnosis. The system includes a convolutional neural network component configured to extract localized features from plant leaf images, a vision transformer component configured to model global contextual relationships across the plant leaf images through self-attention mechanisms, a projection layer configured to transform feature maps from the convolutional neural network component into an embedding space compatible with the vision transformer component, a tokenization module configured to convert the transformed feature maps into a sequence of tokens representing spatial patches of the plant leaf images, and a classification head configured to process output from the vision transformer component and generate probability distributions over multiple plant disease classes."
