MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025471 A) filed by Meenakshi Academy Of Higher Education And Research; and Meenakshi Ammal Dental College And Hospital, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 4, for 'hybrid robotic arm-based dental suction apparatus for automated clinical fluid management.'

Inventor(s) include Dr. V. Poongodi.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to an automated intraoral suction unit for clinical fluid management during dental procedures. The system comprises a sensor array including optical, moisture, and negative pressure sensors configured to detect real-time oral fluid conditions. An AI-enabled control unit processes sensor inputs and generates control signals for regulating suction intensity and automated positioning. A micro-arm assembly having multi-joint hinges and a flexible segment repositions a suction nozzle within or near the oral cavity in response to the control signals. The nozzle includes a replaceable biopolymer tip with anti-blockage internal channels and a multi-port configuration for multi-directional fluid capture. The apparatus further comprises a waste management unit including a low-water filtration chamber, a recyclable waste reservoir, and a sterilization module employing ultraviolet or ozone treatment. The coordinated system enables adaptive, continuous, and hands-free evacuation of intraoral fluids."
