MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641025517 A) filed by Vignan Institute Of Pharmaceutical Technology, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on March 4, for 'in vivo evaluation of seaweed polysaccharides for enhancing immune response against respiratory pathogens.'

Inventor(s) include R. Mohini; D. Rama Devi; G. Vasantha; M. Naga Bharathi; and S. Kiranmai.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "This invention introduces a novel method for evaluating the in vivo effects of polysaccharides extracted from specific seaweeds, focusing on their ability to boost the body's immune response against common respiratory pathogens such as influenza viruses and respiratory syncytial virus. By using a controlled animal model, the approach demonstrates how these natural compounds can enhance immune cell activity, reduce infection severity, and promote faster recovery without causing side effects. The polysaccharides are sourced from a unique blend of brown and red seaweeds, processed through an eco-friendly extraction technique that preserves their bioactive properties. Results from the evaluation show significant improvements in immune markers, offering potential for developing natural supplements or treatments to prevent respiratory illnesses in humans."
