MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202431034963 A) filed by Indian Council Of Agricultural Research; and Central Silk Board, Kolkata, West Bengal, on May 2, 2024, for 'incorporating antheraea mylitta pupae meal in fish feed, restricting fish meal, methods thereof.'

Inventor(s) include Md Abul Hassan; Basanta Kumar Das; Dharmendra Kumar Meena; Rahul Das; Karmabeer Jena; Susmita Das; Jitendra Singh; K Sathyanarayana; Tanmoy Kr Manna; and Rani Sadhukhan.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A floating fish feed comprising Antheraea mylitta pupae meal as an alternative protein source wherein the quantity of pupae meal and its contribution of lipid in the final feed mixture and the method of pre-processing of pupae meal to reduce the lipid content to an optimum level result in the manufacture of extruded floating fish feed. Crude lipid in Antheraea mylitta pupae meal reduced from15% to 4.39% is essential to maintain optimum fat level for production of extrusion pellet. The processed pupae meal allows inclusion of pupae meal to a maximum of 22% in final formulation having feed stability (76-90%) and floatability (96-100%) for superior growth and nutrient utilization in fishes. The developed feed showed superior nutrient utilization in terms of feed conversion ratio from 1.35 to 1.64 in P. hypophthalmus and 1.68 to 2.0 in O. niloticus."
