MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202321087959 A) filed by Climacrew Private Limited, Maharashtra, on Dec. 22, 2023, for 'integrated aerated tank bioreactor for suspension and rope based cultivation of seaweed.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Prashant Bhairavnath Savvashe; Dr. Susanta Kundu; Ms. Devleena Bhattacharjee; and Mr. Kalyanji Gala.
The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention relates to a system with aerated tank bioreactor for integrated suspension and rope based seaweed cultivation. More particularly, this invention provides a land based seaweed cultivation system in which the system comprises of a specifically designed tank bioreactor, storage tank for settling seawater, filtration unit for removing suspended solids from seawater, water recirculation pump, water flow meter, water control valve, air compressor for air supply, air control valve, air flow meter, nutrient supply unit, sensor, display unit for monitoring nutrient requirement. The sensor of the system is used to monitor the different parameters within the tank such as temperature, pH, and nutrient level. It enables external supply of nutrients as and when needed. The bottom of the tank bioreactor is trough-crest geometry. The bottom of the tank bioreactor is trough-crest geometry which creates circulation pattern with bottom aeration. Further this tank reactor is used to cultivate different types of aquatic plants including species of red, green, and brown seaweeds in a controlled environment with optimized continuous seawater supply. The cultivated seaweeds using the system of the invention are free of marine pollutants and generating maximum yields under optimum controlled and stable environmental conditions."
