MUMBAI, India, Nov. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202514034114 A) filed by Distance Technologies Oy, Helsinki, on April 7, for 'light field display using birefringement materials and metamaterials.'

Inventor(s) include Mikko Strandborg.

The application for the patent was published on Nov. 7, under issue no. 45/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A first virtual image and a second virtual image are obtained, based on a relative location of a first eye (114a) and a second eye (114b) of at least one user with respect to an optical element (110). An image is generated, based on the first virtual image, the second virtual image, the relative location of the first eye and the second eye with respect to the optical element, and a relative location of the optical element with respect to a first display region (106) and a second display region (108) of a display unit (104). The image is displayed via the display unit. The optical element, being made of a birefringent material or a metamaterial, re-directs light (116) emanating from the second display region to bend towards the first eye and the second eye, whilst allowing light (118) emanating from the first display region to be incident upon the first eye and the second eye without bending."
