MUMBAI, India, Sept. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411012830 A) filed by Bennett University, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, on Feb. 22, 2024, for 'lightweight cryptography algorithm for iot security.'
Inventor(s) include Dr. Madhushi Verma; and Dr. Rishi Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on Sept. 12, under issue no. 37/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure introduces a lightweight cryptography system, tailored specifically for enhancing security in Internet of Things (IoT) environments. The cornerstone of the system is a lightweight encryption algorithm, adeptly configured to secure data communications between various IoT devices. The algorithm ensures robust protection while maintaining low computational overhead, crucial for IoT devices with limited processing capabilities. Integral to the system is a key management module, seamlessly interlinked with the lightweight encryption algorithm. The module is responsible for the efficient generation, distribution, and revocation of encryption keys, playing a pivotal role in maintaining the overall security framework. Additionally, the system includes a secure data storage component, which is connected to the encryption algorithm. The component is designed to safeguard sensitive data at rest, ensuring that stored data remains protected against unauthorized access or breaches. An authentication module forms a critical part of the system, responsible for verifying the identities of IoT devices and users before granting access. The module enhances security by ensuring that only authorized entities can access the network and the resources. Lastly, the system features a secure communication channel establishment module. The module facilitates the establishment of secure initial connections between IoT devices, setting the foundation for subsequent secure communications. The integration of said components into a cohesive system provides a comprehensive security solution, catering to the unique requirements and constraints of IoT devices and networks."
