MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517067061 A) filed by Basf Se, Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany, on July 14, for 'manufacture of an ethylene-derived chemical of interest, in particular acrylic acid, in combination with generation of heated steam.'
Inventor(s) include Willersinn, Stefan; Weinel, Christian; Keck, Daniel; Eller, Johannes Lazaros Friedrich; and Rahn, Dieter.
The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A process for the manufacture of acrylic acid in combination with generation of heated steam comprises subjecting a feedstock comprising a renewably-sourced ethanol to dehydration to produce a renewably-sourced ethylene stream, which is subjected to an olefin-interconversion to obtain a renewably-sourced propylene. Further, the renewably- sourced propylene is subjected to an oxidation reaction to obtain acrylic acid. At least a portion of heat generated by the oxidation reaction is removed, and at least a portion of the heat is transferred to a water stream to generate a heated steam stream. The process provides a reaction scheme that provides renewably-sourced acrylic acid, while minimizing both the non-renewable fossil energy input and consumption of renewably- sourced feedstock."
The patent application was internationally filed on Dec. 18, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/086350.
