MUMBAI, India, Oct. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411024559 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, New Delhi, on March 27, 2024, for 'metamaterial-based pad (meta pad) for enhanced vibration control of railway track.'
Inventor(s) include Arnab Banerjee; Indrajit Pahari; and Bappaditya Manna.
The application for the patent was published on Oct. 31, under issue no. 44/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present invention discloses a meta rail pad (MRP) (200) for use in railways. The meta rail pad (MRP) (200) comprises a first member (206-1) having a plurality of uniformly distributed hollow faces (208) at a bottom surface, a second member (206-2). Herein, the second member (206-2) is coupled to the first member (206-1), defining a plurality of cavities (210) formed as a result of coupling of the first member (206-1) with the second member (206-2). Moreover, the plurality of cavities (210) are impregnated with metal/metal alloys or high damping materials or are left vacant or with a combination of metal/metal alloys, high damping materials and void."
