MUMBAI, India, Aug. 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517049499 A) filed by National Chung Hsing University; and Gruissem, Wilhelm, Taichung City, Taiwan, on May 22, for 'method for increasing micronutrient content in food crops.'

Inventor(s) include Gruissem, Wilhelm; Chen, Chih-Yun; Kawakami, Yuta; Chang, Shu-Heng; and Chu, Yen-Wei.

The application for the patent was published on Aug. 1, under issue no. 31/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention provides a method for increasing a micronutrient content in food crops capable of editing promoters of genes related to absorption, transport or/and storage of micronutrients in food crops by a gene editing technology, so that the promoters of the genes have a single-base pair mutation to provide new binding sites for transcription factors, thereby achieving an efficacy of increasing a content of micronutrients, such as iron and zinc, in an endosperm of food crops by enhancing or inducing gene activity."

The patent application was internationally filed on Mar. 08, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/055856.
