MUMBAI, India, June 27 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202517054288 A) filed by Essilor International, Charenton-le-Pont, France, on June 5, for 'method for manufacturing an ophthalmic article having at least one microstructured surface, and ophthalmic article thus obtained.'
Inventor(s) include Biver, Claudine; and Cano, Jean-Paul.
The application for the patent was published on June 27, under issue no. 26/2025.
According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an ophthalmic article having at least one microstructured surface, and to an ophthalmic article obtained by this method. The method is for manufacturing an ophthalmic article having front and rear main surfaces, at least one of which is a microstructured surface, and comprises: a) Providing an ophthalmic substrate (10) with a substrate surface which is either hydrophobic or hydrophilic; b) Patterning the substrate surface to create thereon a surface wettability pattern comprising a two-dimensional array of distant hydrophilic micro-areas and of at least one hydrophobic zone which separates the hydrophilic micro-areas from each other; c) Coating the two-dimensional array with a hydrophilic liquid able to form an abrasion-resistant coating in a dried and/or cured state, to form distant droplets (D) of the hydrophilic liquid which are anchored to the hydrophilic micro-areas by wettability thereof; and d) Drying and/or curing the droplets (D) of the hydrophilic liquid, to generate therefrom a three-dimensional array of micro-lenses forming the at least one microstructured surface."
The patent application was internationally filed on Nov. 06, 2023, under International application No.PCT/EP2023/080881.
