MUMBAI, India, Jan. 23 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511124421 A) filed by Manav Rachna International Institute Of Research & Studies, Faridabad, Haryana, on Dec. 10, 2025, for 'method for manufacturing decomposable utensil from orange peels.'

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "A method (500) for manufacturing a decomposable utensil (100) from orange peels is disclosed. The method (500) comprising steps of obtaining a fine powder by preprocessing orange peels; autoclaving the fine powder, using an autoclave (208), at a first temperature and a first pressure for a first time duration with a buffer break; mixing 5% (v/w) polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) solution into the autoclaved fine powder in a ratio ranging from 1:1 to 1:3 to obtain a dough; molding the dough into a required shape of utensil using a mold (210); baking the molded dough, in the autoclave (208), at a second temperature for a preset time range; and obtaining the decomposable utensil (100) upon cooling of the baked dough. The method (500) utilizes discarded orange peels, converting agricultural waste into a valuable product, thereby reducing landfill pressure, and promoting sustainable waste management."
