MUMBAI, India, June 6 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202311082688 A) filed by Northern India Textile Research Association, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Dec. 5, 2023, for 'method of manufacturing jute based fabric for protection against molten metal splash.'

Inventor(s) include Manjeet Singh Parmar; Swami Sharan; and Mahadeb Dutta.

The application for the patent was published on June 6, under issue no. 23/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "No remarkable work has been carried out to develop Jute or Jute-based flame-retardant fabric. Jute fibre has some unique physical properties like high tenacity, bulkiness, sound and heat insulation properties, low thermal conductivity and antistatic properties etc. In view of the above, this invention proposes a method of manufacturing Jute based fabric for protection against molten metal splash comprising the following steps: -Preparing jute based union fabric; - Creating said fabric using various woven/nonwoven /knitted structures; - Scouring to remove the impurities followed by bleaching for whitening; - Finishing by treating the fabric with flame retardant (FR) compounds to render the fabric fire retardant. The present invention is easy to source and manufacture in conventional looms, and also simple."
