MUMBAI, India, May 1 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641051372 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology, Hyderabad, Telangana, on April 22, for 'method of preparation of white light emitting carbon dots from epiphyllum oxypetalum.'

Inventor(s) include Akella Sai Radha Aishwarya; and Dr. M. Annadhasan.

The application for the patent was published on May 1, under issue no. 18/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a method of preparing Carbon dots from Epiphyllum oxypetalum comprising the steps of (i) preparing an extract of the Epiphyllum oxypetalum; (ii) placing the extract in an autoclave followed by heating at a temperature of 100-300 C for 10-15 h for reaction; (iii) cooling the reaction mixture when the reaction is completed, followed by removing insoluble substances from the reaction mixture by filtration; and (iv) centrifuging the reaction mixture at 5000 to 10,000 rpm for 10 to 30 minutes to obtain carbon dots."
