MUMBAI, India, March 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621009203 A) filed by Meril Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd., Valsad, Gujarat, on Jan. 29, for 'method of production of alpha-fetoprotein (afp).'

Inventor(s) include Gupta, Anuj Kumar; Kaur, Parvinder; Gandhi, Megha; Patel, Shivani; and Krishnamoorthy, Sridhar.

The application for the patent was published on March 13, under issue no. 11/2026.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a method (100) for producing alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) from hepatocarcinoma cell lines by incubating a plurality of Human Hepatoblastoma cells (HepG2 cells) in a serum-free media at a pre-defined temperature and environment to produce a spent media. The serum-free media is supplemented with 0.9988 M to 9.988 M Dexamethasone (Dxn), and 2mM to 8 mM of L-alanyl-L-glutamine dipeptide or L-glutamine. The plurality of Human Hepatoblastoma cells (HepG2 cells) is separated from the spent media to obtain a supernatant. The supernatant is purified to obtain AFP."
