MUMBAI, India, July 25 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411001965 A) filed by Institute Of Nano Science And Technology; and Panjab University, Mohali, Punjab, on Jan. 10, 2024, for 'method of separating iron and cobalt from their salt and solid mixture.'

Inventor(s) include Jha, Menaka; Mehta, Surinder K; Rana, Supriya; and Arora, Arushi.

The application for the patent was published on July 25, under issue no. 30/2025.

According to the abstract released by the Intellectual Property India: "The present disclosure relates to a method of separating iron (Fe) and cobalt (Co). The method comprises adding a precipitating agent in an aqueous solution to form a precipitate of a first metal complex and a supernatant, adding a base in the supernatant to form a precipitate of a second metal complex, calcining the precipitates of the first metal complex and the second metal complex to form metal oxides, and annealing the metal oxides to obtain metals (Fe and Co). The method of the present disclosure provides a simple, cost-effective, and eco-friendly approach of separation iron and cobalt from their mixture."
